Installation

Installation guide

The same five stages apply to every device. Below them you will find the specific steps for each platform we support.

Before you start

Five minutes of preparation saves most of the problems people write to us about.

  • Have your account details to hand, exactly as we sent them — capital letters matter.
  • Confirm the device is connected to the internet and can open something else online.
  • Know which player we confirmed for your device. If you are not sure, ask before installing anything.
  • Set up on a phone first if you can. It takes two minutes and proves the account works.

The five stages, on any device

  1. Connect the device

Get the television, stick or box onto your network and confirm it can reach the internet.

  2. Install the player

Install the application we confirmed for your platform, from its own store where one is available.

  3. Enter your details

Open the player, find the account or playlist screen and type the details in exactly as sent.

  4. Let the list load

The first load takes longer than later ones. Leave it to finish before you start browsing.

  5. Test and tidy up

Play something, check the picture, then put the player somewhere easy to find on the home screen.

Smart TVs

Samsung sets use the Samsung App Store, LG sets use the LG Content Store, and other manufacturers use their own equivalent. Tell us the make, model and year of your television and we will confirm which player to install before you order.

  1. Connect the television to your home network and confirm it can reach the internet.
  2. Open the television’s own app store from the home screen.
  3. Search for the IPTV player we confirmed for your model and install it.
  4. Open the player and find the screen where account or playlist details are entered.
  5. Enter the details exactly as we sent them, including any capital letters.
  6. Wait for the programme list to load the first time, then start watching.

Televisions more than a few years old sometimes have no suitable player left in their store. If that is the case for your set, a small streaming stick or box plugged into an HDMI port solves it, and the television keeps working exactly as it does now.

Amazon Fire TV & Firestick

Some players are listed in the Amazon Appstore and install in one step. Others are installed using Amazon’s own sideloading route, which the device supports but switches off by default.

  1. Plug the Fire TV device into an HDMI port, connect the power lead and select that input on the television.
  2. Finish the Amazon setup and connect the device to your network.
  3. Search the Amazon Appstore for the player we confirmed for you and install it if it appears there.
  4. If the player is not in the store, open Settings, then My Fire TV, then About, and select the device name several times until developer options appear.
  5. In Developer Options, allow apps from unknown sources for the downloader application you are using.
  6. Install the player, open it, and enter the account details we sent you.

Switch the unknown-sources setting back off once the player is installed. Fire TV devices also benefit from being restarted occasionally — they are left on standby rather than switched off, and a restart clears up most odd behaviour.

Android TV & Google TV

Most suitable players are in Google Play on the device itself. Where one is not, Android TV supports installing applications from a file, which is the route we will walk you through.

  1. Connect the box, stick or television to your network and sign in with a Google account.
  2. Open Google Play on the device — not on your phone — and search for the confirmed player.
  3. Install it and let it finish before opening it.
  4. Open the player and go to the screen for adding an account or a playlist.
  5. Enter the details we sent, then allow the programme list to load fully.
  6. Set the player as a favourite on the home screen so it is easy to find again.

Very cheap unbranded Android boxes vary enormously in quality. If you are buying one specifically for this, ask us first — a box with too little memory will stutter no matter how good the connection is.

Apple TV

Players must come from the tvOS App Store, so the choice is smaller than on Android. Some of them are paid applications; that charge belongs to the developer and is separate from your subscription.

  1. Connect the Apple TV to your network and sign in to the App Store with your Apple Account.
  2. Open the App Store on the Apple TV and search for the player we confirmed.
  3. Install it, then open it from the home screen.
  4. Add your account or playlist details on the player’s setup screen.
  5. Let the programme list finish loading before browsing it.

Apple TV cannot install applications from outside the App Store. If a particular player is unavailable in your country’s store, we will suggest an alternative that is.

Android phones & tablets

Players are installed from Google Play in the normal way.

  1. Open Google Play and install the confirmed player.
  2. Open it and enter your account details on the setup screen.
  3. Allow the programme list to load, then play something to confirm it works.
  4. Use Wi-Fi rather than mobile data unless you have a generous allowance.

Remember that playing on the phone counts towards the number of simultaneous connections your plan allows.

iPhone & iPad

Players come from the iOS App Store. As on Apple TV, some are paid applications sold by their own developers.

  1. Install the confirmed player from the App Store.
  2. Open it and enter your account details.
  3. Let the programme list load, then play something to confirm it works.
  4. Use AirPlay to a compatible television if you want the picture on a bigger screen.

AirPlay depends on your television and your network rather than on the subscription, and it can be less stable than a player running on the television itself.

Windows & Mac computers

Desktop IPTV players exist for both Windows and macOS, and general-purpose media players that accept a playlist will also work.

  1. Install a compatible desktop player, or a media player that accepts a playlist address.
  2. Open it and add your account or playlist details.
  3. Play a channel to confirm the connection works from this network.

If the computer plays perfectly on the same network where the television struggles, the difference is almost always the television’s own network connection rather than the subscription.

If something goes wrong

Work through it in this order

  1. Close the player completely and open it again.
  2. Restart the device, not just the application.
  3. Restart the router and wait for it to come back fully.
  4. Try the same account on a phone to find out whether the problem is the device or the account.
  5. Check whether every channel is affected or only one.
  6. Send us what you found, with a photo of any error message.
